ETOBICOKE – An emotional night at Connorvale Park was highlighted by new records and near-perfection.
Humber softball (11-3, 2nd OCAA) swept the doubleheader with Mohawk (2-12, 7th OCAA) and before the twin bill, a special ceremony was held for the 2021-22 graduating class of Alexa Vassos, Hayley Pasma, Breanna Oliver, Kadyn Wotton, and Jessica MacPherson.
Game One: Humber 14, Mohawk 0 – 4 innings
Humber's offence did not waste any time in game one, putting up six runs in the first inning. After hitting her first Humber home run at nationals, Jessica MacPherson drilled her first OCAA home run to left field for a two-run shot, scoring Hannah Koziolek.
In the second inning, Alexis Ferreira made Humber history, hitting her fourth home run of the season, setting a new single-season program record.
MacPherson finished with a career-high three hits and four RBIs in the win, while Koziolek added three hits of her own.
Freshman Mikaela Moore was brilliant in the circle, picking up her fourth win of the season. A walked hitter in the fourth inning was the only blemish on the night, as the Brampton native threw a four-inning no-hitter.
Game Two: Humber 13, Mohawk 3 – 5 innings
After the offensive showcase in game one, the Hawks started slow in game two, as Mohawk got on the board for two runs over the first three innings.
With one of the top offences in the provinces, it was just a matter of time until the bats came alive. Breanna Oliver opened the scoring in the third with an RBI double that scored Alexa Vassos. Alexis Ferreira proceeded to hit a three-run home run as the Hawks went on to score nine runs in the inning.
Leading by nine in the fifth, rookie Mattisyn Balson hit an RBI single to end the night early for the home fans with a walk-off victory.
Kadyn Wotton picked up the win in her final home appearance, throwing four innings with three strikeouts. Cheyenne Sears threw the final inning for her fourth appearance of the season.
Humber Highlights
- The Hawks improve to 20-0 all-time against Mohawk at home, extending their overall win streak to 11 games against the Mountaineers.
- Humber's 11 home runs in 14 games is the best mark in the conference.
- Alexis Ferreira's five home runs are the most in the OCAA.
- Mattisyn Balson and Julia DeVuono drove in their first career OCAA RBIs during the twin bill.
- Wotton and Moore's four wins are the fifth-most in the OCAA.

Humber will head on the road to conclude its regular-season series with Seneca (3-13, 6th OCAA) on Oct. 14. Game one is set for 6 p.m.
