Shorthanded Men's Soccer Beat George Brown to Advance to OCAA Championship Tournament

VAUGHAN – With a berth to the 2019 Final Eight tournament on the line, Humber men's soccer (7-2-1) battled hard to defeat George Brown (4-5) Saturday evening in the crossover round, 2-1.
Humber dominated the opening half, making crisps passes while winning the time of possession.
In the 40th minute, Uday Arora was taken down in the box after beating Erasmo Vella along the touchline. Senior Cody Green converted the penalty kick, giving the Hawks the early lead. Humber went into the break leading by one, but the Hawks were issued four cautions in the opening half.
Just after the conclusion of intermission, Nicholas Machado made a brilliant cross to Arora, who beat Matthew DaSilva in the box and then made a left-footed shot off of defender Robert Mijackovic to give Humber its second goal of the match.
Less than ten minutes later, Arora was issued a red card after colliding with Yusef Jama when the defender stepped into his path.
Playing with a man advantage, Filipe Vilela found a streaking Zuheib Mohamed who buried his first goal of the match in the 65th minute.
Less than five minutes later, captain Michael Fayehun was issued his second caution of the match, forcing the Hawks to play two-men down for the remaining 35 minutes of the match.
Humber entered the match on its longest winless streak in nearly four decades and was on the verge of missing the Final Eight tournament for the first time since the program returned to Humber in 1993. With a mix of veterans and freshman remaining on the pitch, Humber rallied together for its best 30 minutes of soccer this season, playing as a collective unit, holding off every George Brown attack and preventing the Huskies from tying the match.
