The Redeemer Royals Men's Soccer team opened up their 2018-2019 season with an impressive 2-1 victory over the visiting St. Clair Saints. After falling behind 1-0 in the first half, the Royals scored two unanswered goals in the second, enroute to a 2-1 win in their home opener. 

After a tough end to their season last year, losing 7-0 in their playoff crossover match, Redeemer came out hungry and ready for a new year. Always looking dangerous on offense, Redeemer found a way to come back from 1-0 down for their first points of the season.
 

HOW RUC SCORED

Redeemer netted goals from 1st year Matthew Cunha and 5th year Alfonso Coto. Cunha notched his first as a Royal in the 50th minute while Coto scored the game winner just 15 minutes later. 
 

RUC IN THE NET

Last year's Indoor Soccer MVP Matt Schoenmaker was outstanding in net for the Royals, making 14 saves, and conceding just once. Matt shut out the Saints in the 2nd half despite facing 8 shots on target.

With the win, the Royals share a lead for first in the OCAA West and will remain their until the 2nd week of games begin. 
  

NEXT UP

Redeemer has 5 days to prepare for their next match on September 13th. The visiting Fanshawe Falcons travel to Redeemer for a Thursday evening tilt. The Falcons took both meetings with the Royals last season.
