The theme this season for Mohawk Mountaineers women's soccer continued on Wednesday night when another game ended in a draw, their fifth of the season. Mohawk would tie the Fanshawe Falcons 1-1.

Janelle Lammers (Frankford, ON) scored her second of the season in the 60th minute to give the Mountaineers the lead, but the Falcons managed to tie it up in the 81st minute.

"There was just a space open right outside the 18 yards," Lammers said. "I just took the shot because I knew the goalie was not in the right place and everything went right."

Mohawk goalkeeper Samantha DeHaan (Smithville, ON) made eight saves in the game.

Head coach Paul Giannini explained what happened on the play that led to the Falcons goal.

"I think that was an unfortunate goal from a miss hit as their player tried to shoot," Giannini said. "The shot didn't even reach the net but dropped for a player of theirs."

Despite the draw after having the opportunity to take all three points, there are some highlights from Mohawk's performance.

"I think we had it under control," Giannini said. "We had a very good shutdown lineup out there and we switched to a defensive formation."

The Mountaineers next match will have major playoff implications in terms of receiving home field advantage in the OCAA crossover round. Mohawk will play cross-city rivals the Redeemer Royals on Oct. 7 at Dave Mantel Field beginning at 6 p.m.
