DC women capture home finale in straight sets

OSHAWA, Ont. - Welcoming the Centennial Colts to the Campus Recreation and Wellness Centre on Thursday night, the No. 4 nationally ranked Durham College women's volleyball team claimed a home finale victory, winning in straight sets versus the OCAA east opponent. Set scores for the match were 25-15, 25-11, 25-17.

Having already claimed the OCAA east division title for the second consecutive season, the Lords continued their creep towards a second straight perfect regular season, improving to 17-0 on the year with just one match remaining. Also of note on the evening, fourth-year team captain Jessica Joensen (Newcastle, Ont.) etched her name into the history books, becoming the Durham Lords all-time leader in career digs with 417, and another match still to go. Following the match, the Durham Lords also honoured their graduating seniors. Those recognized included Joensen, Cassidy Nicholson-Clarke (Ajax, Ont.), Althea Boncheff (Alliston, Ont.), Devyn Fraser (Uxbridge, Ont.), Georgi Williams (Whitby, Ont.), Alexa Armstrong (Whitby, Ont.), Karlina Domingo (Pickering, Ont.), Pasha Ormerod (Terrace, B.C.), and Tiana Cowper (Calgary Alta.). The Durham Lords will end their season on the road this Saturday, Feb. 15 in Barrie where they will face the Georgian Grizzlies. The regular season finale has first serve scheduled for 1 p.m., with the game being streamed on OCAA LIVE.
  • Pacing the Lords on the night were fourth-year outisde hitter Allyson Terwillegar (Enniskillen, Ont.) and the aforementioned Joensen, who registered 10 and nine points, respectively. Terwillegar finished the evening with seven kills and three blocks, while Joensen recorded seven kills and two service aces. 
• Four more Lords recorded five or more points including Ormerod, Boncheff, Nicholson-Clarke, and Armstrong. 
• The Colts were led by a game-high 12 points from Jada Bradford in the loss, registering seven kills, four aces, and one block.
  • Second-year setter Williams led the Lords with 25 assists on the night, while team defence was key as 11 players recorded a dig in the quick three set victory.
• Angel Valenzona topped the Colts with 14 assists, with Stella Dada leading the team with a game-high seven digs defensively.
