WOMEN'S BASKETBALL RUN OUT OF GAS IN SECOND HALF AGAINST SENECA
Eden Young wrestles for the ball against the Sting on Friday night at the Georgian Athletic Centre.
The Georgian Grizzlies women's basketball team hosted the Seneca Sting on Friday night at the Georgian Athletic Centre in Barrie.
The Grizzlies put up a strong fight against the Sting, but a shortened Georgian bench ran out of steam in the second half.
Georgian was only able to muster 15 second half points as they fell to the Sting 48-36.
Despite the loss there were many positives for the home side including holding the Sting scoreless from three point range.
Mckenzie Howlett (Barrie) had yet another strong performance as she matched a season high with 19 points. She is second on the team in scoring averaging 9.8 points-per-game only behind teammate Kelsey Dunkeld (Barrie) who has 11.1 points-per-game this season but was out of the lineup Friday.
The Grizzlies remain in seventh place in the OCAA east division standings with a 3-12 record on the season.
Both the Grizzlies men's and women's teams will play their final home regular season games next Wednesday, Feb. 13 when they host the George Brown Huskies.
The women's game gets underway at 6 p.m. followed by the men's game at 8 p.m. Tickets for the double-header are available at the doors for $5 each.
Prior to the game there will be a special ceremony recognizing our graduating student-athletes.
