OAKVILLE – Humber women's volleyball (2-1, 5th West) battled to a four-set victory against the Sheridan Bruins (1-3, 8th West) on Sunday afternoon at the Trafalgar Gym. The Hawks picked up their second win of the season by set scores of 25-22, 18-25, 25-19, and 25-23.

Humber had a slow start to their opening set in Oakville, as the host Sheridan took control with a four-point lead right away. The Hawks were quick to switch gears and put pressure on the Bruins through strong defence, tying the game at 14-14 and forcing Sheridan into a time out at 19-16. Humber doubled down on their defence and earned the first-set victory, 25-22.

Discipline at the service line by middles Shiann Williams and Alex Krstonosic gave the Hawks a head start in the second set, earning a quick 15-9 advantage. However, Sheridan responded with a service run of their own, soon tying the game and prompting a time-out from Humber. Both teams battled out the final points before Humber fell behind and dropped the set, 18-25.

With the sets split 1-1, the Bruins and Hawks competed head-to-head for the lead throughout the third and fourth sets. Humber was able to maintain pressure against their competitors at the net, as third-year middle Alex Krstonosic earned momentum for the Hawks with back-to-back kills against Sheridan. It was clear neither team would slow down on their efforts to take the lead, as the service was traded back and forth without any room for service runs. Humber's offence continued to elevate as kills by Hayley Henderson and Hannah Petcoff led the Hawks to victory in the final sets with scores of 25-19 and 25-23.

Fourth-year right side Julia Watson led the team in points, finishing with 14 kills and an ace. Third-year Shiann Williams followed with 13 points, recording seven kills and six blocks.
