OCR GAMING: WRAPPING UP INAUGURAL EVENT

OCR GAMING: WRAPPING UP INAUGURAL EVENT

Ontario Collegiate Recreation (OCR) is pleased to wrap up their first competitive Gaming Tournament as part of their RecPlay programming for the Fall of 2020.

With the move from in-person sport and recreation to a virtual and online context, OCR knew that a pivot was required in order to provide student-athletes with valuable and engaging participation opportunities. OCR Gaming was created to provide an avenue for meaningful competition and engagement across campuses and demographics. By hosting a virtual program we were able to reach new audiences, reduce the feeling of social isolation and provide hands-on learning opportunities and jobs for students.

Students across eight OCAA schools participated in this inaugural event. Represented were Boréal, Canadore, Centennial, Ontario Tech, Fanshawe, Seneca, Sheridan, and Humber.

The XBOX division proved to be less popular with only three players participating in the tournament. Taking home the Championship title of the XBOX division was Seneca's JaccNastyy.

The PS4 division saw a larger uptake with 10 players participating. Taking home the Championship title of the PS4 division was Sheridan's KrissyRm4 followed by Centennial's Hickey_Mouse10 for Silver and Sheridan's J-catfis14 for Bronze. Playoff series of this division saw some great competition and skill, making the championship win that much sweeter.

Congratulations to our Fair Play winner Lentini Louis from Boréal for their ongoing participation and enthusiasm throughout the tournament.

OCR RecPlay Gaming will look to run another tournament in Winter 2021, hosting NHL21 on XBOX & PS4. More details to come in the new semester. Thank you to all students and schools who participated in the inaugural event and we look forward to hosting another!
