FANSHAWE'S DANG AND SINHA WIN CCAA NATIONAL BRONZE

On Saturday afternoon, the Falcons badminton men's doubles team of San Dang (London, Ont.) and Arpitraj Sinha (Markham, Ont.) captured Fanshawe's first CCAA men's doubles bronze medal. The 2022 CCAA Badminton National Championships were hosted by NAIT in Edmonton, Alta.

Dang and Sinha finished with a record of 4-1 in the group stage of the event. They won 21-16, 21-14 over NAIT and won 18-21, 21-18, 21-13 over UKC. They also had commanding victories over The King's University 21-12, 21-10 and Dalhousie 21-2, 21-8. Dang and Sinha's only round robin loss was to OCAA champion Seneca, 15-21, 21-16, 16-21.

There was a three-way tie for first place in the group stage, with the Falcons, Seneca and UKC all having 4-1 records. Fanshawe ultimately finished second in the round robin, but had to face their OCAA rival Seneca in the semi-final match and fell 21-15, 21-18.

In the bronze medal match on Saturday against the host NAIT Ooks, the Falcons came out strong and held a lead on the Ooks throughout both sets. Fanshawe defeated NAIT 2-0 (21-17, 21-17) to win the national bronze. This is the third season in a row that the Fanshawe badminton program has brought home a CCAA medal.
