HAMILTON, Ont. - The Fanshawe Falcons went home with two gold medals and one silver at the 2019 Ontario Colleges Athletic Association Curling Championships presented by belairdirect in Hamilton, Ont.
Charlie Richard's (Woodstock) Fanshawe men's foursome needed an extra end to defeat Nick Servant's (Sault Ste. Marie) Sault College rink 6-4 at the Glendale Golf and Country Club Sunday. The Cougars had gone through the round robin and semifinal without a loss.
Other members of the winning Richard team included vice Tyler Twining (Owen Sound), second Eric Jones (Mildmay), lead Brady St. Louis (St. Marys) and alternate Owen Tester (Fort McMurray, Alta.). DJ Donaldson is head coach of the Falcons.
Sean Armstrong (Ottawa) and his Humber Hawks' rink captured the men's bronze medal with a 5-1 victory over Confederation, skipped by Kurtwood McGuire (Fort Frances).
Fanshawe also won the women's title. Kaitlyn Poirier (Sioux Lookout) just got by Humber's Cassie Paccanaro (Cayuga) 3-2 in the gold medal match.
Other members of the winning rink were vice Erin White (Chatham), second Brianne Donegan (Listowel), lead Lauren Massey (London) and alternate Gabby McSloy (St. Thomas). Barry Westman is the Falcons' head coach.
Paige Droog and her Fleming Knights' foursome won the bronze medal, defeating the host Mohawk Mountaineers, skipped by Alex Nunes (Hamilton), 8-5.
Humber won the mixed event, 8-7 over Brett Henderson's (London) Fanshawe crew.
Members of the Hawks' gold medalists were skip Jonah Paquette (Lansdowne), vice Genna Clarke (Mississauga), second Gavin Hinton (Toronto) and lead Nadia Marrast (Toronto). Humber's head coach is Zach Shurtleff.
