ST. CLAIR 5, FANSHAWE 4

KITCHENER, Ont. - The St. Clair College women's softball team needed a walk-off run to outlast Fanshawe College (London) 5-4 in the first round of the OCAA Provincial Championship Tournament Friday afternoon.

The Saints used an RBI single by Kim Moroun (Belle River, ON/Belle River District) to score Player of the Game Mary O'Neil (Oldcastle, ON/St. Thomas of Villanova) in the 7th inning.  St. Clair trailed 3-0 in the 3rd inning but closed the gap in the bottom half to 3-2.  Fanshawe made it 4-2 in the 4th before the Saints tied the game 4-4 in the 5th setting up the late game heroics.

O'Neil had a single and a double in three trips scoring a pair of runs to earn St. Clair's Player of the Game Award.  Moroun had 2 RBI's in the game for Saints pitcher Sara Stiller (Windsor, ON/Holy Names) who went the distance for the win surrendering only 1 earned run on 8 hits to go with 4 strikeouts.

St. Clair advances to the 5:00pm game to face defending OCAA Champion Durham College (Oshawa).  The event is being hosted at Kitchener's Budd Park by Conestoga College.
