LONDON, Ont. - On Saturday, Sept. 7 at 1 p.m., Fanshawe Athletics will celebrate the grand opening of Alumni Field, the new home of the Falcons softball program.

Located on the campus of Fanshawe College, construction of the $210,000 facility began in June 2018 and is London's only regulation-sized softball diamond. Dimensions are 210 feet down the lines and 225 feet to centrefield. Features include an irrigated grass outfield, groomed clay infield, fully-enclosed fenced outfield with fence windbreaks, bleachers, electrical plug-ins behind the back stop, flag poles, a grass berm and team benches with back rests, shelf and sun protection. The facility also boasts a large nine-inning Falcons branded scoreboard and a single lane batting cage.

"We are absolutely thrilled to be opening Alumni Field and provide a first class venue for our Softball program to compete in on campus," stated Manager of Athletics, Nathan McFadden. "This is an exceptional facility and one that both our student-athletes and the London community will enjoy playing on for years to come."

The Falcons softball team will host their first games of the 2019 OCAA regular season at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. against the Conestoga Condors. Fanshawe Athletics will host their annual Falcons Fest event during the doubleheader, with free hot dogs and soft drinks while supplies last for all Falcons fans.

Fanshawe will also be hosting the 2019 OCAA Women's Softball Championship on the new field from Oct. 18-19, 2019.
