ST. CLAIR WOMEN'S SOFTBALL SET TO HOST NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP

WINDSOR, Ont. - The St. Clair College women's softball team will be welcoming teams from across Canada this weekend for the 2022 Canadian Collegiate Softball Association National Championship being held at the campus SportsPark Oct. 7-9.

The 2021 CCSA defending champions are back from the University of British Colombia (Okanagan) who narrowly defeated St. Clair on their home diamond last fall. UBCO (16-1-4) was runner-up this past weekend at the Western Canada Softball Association Championship to the University of Calgary (19-3-4) who will be that conference's top seed this year.

The Ontario University Softball league will be represented by the University of Western Ontario (London), the University of Toronto and the University of Ottawa.  Western (12-0) is a five-time champion at the national tournament and is currently first in the OUS West Division while Toronto (9-5) and Ottawa (9-7) are second and fourth respectively in the East Division so far this season.

Undefeated St. Clair (18-0) will be joined from the college ranks by Durham (16-6, OCAA second) from Oshawa and Humber (15-5, OCAA third) from Etobicoke who rank just behind the Saints in the provincial standings.

Pool play begins Friday morning at 10 a.m. which stretches into Saturday morning before quarter-finals at 2 p.m. followed by semi-final games that evening starting at 6 p.m. Medal games will be played on Sunday starting with the bronze at 10 a.m. and the championship concludes with the cold final at 12:30 p.m.

The Saints open their tournament on Friday at 12 p.m. against Toronto and play back-to-back against Durham at 2 p.m. St. Clair wraps up pool play on Saturday at 11:30 a.m. against UBCO in a rematch of last year's final.

All National Championship games will be played on campus as St. Clair constructed an additional temporary diamond on the turf of Acumen Stadium. Live stream coverage will be provided be WE-Digital Productions of all tournament games.
