OCAA ATHLETES OF THE WEEK

OCAA ATHLETES OF THE WEEK

TORONTO - The following student-athletes have been recognized by the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) for their accomplishments during the seven-day period ending Sunday, Sept. 15.

Olivia Elliott
School: St. Clair
Program: Early Childhood Education
Year of Eligibility: 3
Sport: Women's Softball
Hometown: Oakville, Ont.
Elliott picked up three victories this week, including a couple of complete games. She allowed no earned runs while striking out 10 in St. Clair's 4-1 win at Conestoga on Sept. 20. Elliott recorded a second straight 10-strike out performance the following day at Humber, allowing two earned runs in a 5-2 victory. After 14 innings in less than 24 hours, Elliott was limited the next day, but still earned another victory pitching two innings of relief at Durham in a 5-4 win. She now has 41 strike outs for the season, good for second among OCAA hurlers.

Jade Kovacevic
School: Fanshawe
Program: Marketing Management
Year of Eligibility: 5
Sport: Women's Soccer
Hometown: Acton, Ont.
Kovacevic, the reigning Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association Player of the Year and All-Canadian, is now the OCAA's all-time leader in goals. She scored four goals in Fanshawe's 5-0 win at Mohawk on Sept. 21 bringing her career total to 84, one more than the previous record of 83 established by Cambrian's Tiffany Johnson in 2017. It also marks a triple crown of sorts for Kovacevic, as she is also the OCAA record holder for goals in a single match (nine) and single season (30). Kovacevic has five more matches remaining to add to her impressive totals.

Cooper Lamb
School: Seneca
Program: Pre-Service Firefighting
Year of Eligibility: 1
Sport: Men's Baseball
Hometown: Toronto, Ont.
Lamb had an impact week at the plate in three separate victories for the undefeated Seneca Sting. The first-year shortstop scored three runs in Seneca's doubleheader sweep against George Brown on Sept. 18, and followed it up with a 3-for-3 performance against perennial powerhouse St. Clair on Sept. 20, including a walk, three runs, two triples and a dramatic walk-off two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh in a come-from-behind 4-3 win. With seven straight victories to begin 2019, Seneca has already established a new team record for wins in a season.

Joshua Lee
School: Durham
Program: Entrepreneurship and Small Business
Year of Eligibility: 1
Sport: Men's Soccer
Hometown: Ajax, Ont.
Lee, a first-year entrepreneurship and small business major, was a major part of Durham's offensive explosion this weekend as the team notched 17 goals in two matches. Lee was one of four players to score multiple goals in Durham's 10-0 win over the Sault Cougars on Sept. 21, netting two goals in the win. The first-year midfielder then added a hat trick the next day in Durham's 7-0 win over Cambrian to make it a five-goal weekend for himself. Durham (4-0), this year's national championship host, entertains Algonquin (3-0) on Saturday in a key East Division showdown.

Kirill Petin
School: Algonquin
Program: Business Administration
Year of Eligibility: 2
Sport: Men's Rugby
Hometown: Ottawa, Ont.
Petin calmly kicked three converts for Algonquin in what proved to be the difference in a 26-25 win over reigning OCAA champion Durham on Sept. 22. Trailing 25-14 with eight minutes remaining, Algonquin scored a pair of unanswered tries, with Petin converting one to give the Thunder the one-point advantage they needed to win the match. Algonquin, last season's OCAA bronze medalist, ended Durham's eight-game winning streak dating back to last September. At 2-0, Algonquin has positioned itself atop the East Division with Durham (1-1) and St. Lawrence (1-1) in close pursuit.

Sydney Seymour
School: Algonquin
Program: Fitness & Health Promotion
Year of Eligibility: 1
Sport: Women's Rugby Sevens
Hometown: Cornwall, Ont.
In the opening competition day for women's rugby sevens at Loyalist on Sept. 21, Seymour had a fantastic OCAA debut on the pitch. The first-year back scored six tries and a convert in four matches, helping lift Algonquin to a 3-1 record to begin its season. Seymour scored Algonquin's lone try in a 12-5 loss to Durham. She then scored three tries while nailing a convert in a 27-7 win over Fleming. Seymour added additional tries against St. Lawrence and Loyalist, both victories. Algonquin is idle along with its East Division counterparts until Oct. 5 when East meets West at Fleming.
