OCAA ATHLETES OF THE WEEK

TORONTO - The following student-athletes have been recognized by the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) for their accomplishments during the seven-day period ending Sunday, Nov. 17.

Khalid Ismail
School: Humber
Program: Business Management
Year of Eligibility: 2
Sport: Men's Basketball
Hometown: Toronto, Ont.
Ismail helped Humber win its second straight game, defeating Niagara in overtime, 95-88 on Nov. 14. Trailing by 10 points with six minutes remaining, the Hawks used a 21-10 run to force overtime. Ismail recorded a career-high 22 points in the win, including seven of Humber's 12 points in overtime. The second-year guard was 10-of-15 shooting, including 2-of-3 beyond the three-point arc. He also recorded deuces in rebounds, assists and steals. Humber hosts Lambton and undefeated St. Clair on consecutive days this Saturday and Sunday.

Jessica Joensen
School: Durham
Program: Business Fundamentals
Year of Eligibility: 4
Sport: Women's Volleyball
Hometown: Newcastle, Ont.
Joensen, a fourth-year outside hitter, helped Durham maintain its perfect 6-0 start to the season with another exceptional performance in a three-set sweep of Georgian at home on Nov. 15. Joensen scored a team-high nine points from nine kills in the three-set win, but was also a leader defensively adding a game-high eight digs. Through 17 sets played so far this season the reigning East Division First-Team League All-Star has scored at least eight points in each match, leading the nationally-ranked team in total kills (48), total points (56) and total digs (40).

Zamam Khan
School: Toronto Mississauga
Program: Politcal Science
Year of Eligibility: 3
Sport: Men's Basketball
Hometown: Ottawa, Ont.
Khan had a very strong performance against Centennial on Nov. 17, leading his team with an astounding 39 points in a 90-83 victory. The third-year captain is the engine of the UTM Eagles as their offence runs through him; he currently leads his teammates averaging 18.7 points per game. His versatility on the court makes Khan a force, being able to attack the glass and also hit off-balance threes. The 2017-18 OCAA Rookie of the Year was also a facilitator for his teammates, finishing the game with five assists. Zhan and his Eagles visit Georgian on Wednesday.

Rylee Leger
School: Algonquin
Program: Early Learning & Community Development
Year of Eligibility: 4
Sport: Women's Volleyball
Hometown: Alexandria, Ont.
Leger had another solid outing in Algonquin's three-set victory over the Loyalist Lancers on Nov. 16. A three-time OCAA League All-Star, Leger finished with a match-high 11 points on seven kills and four aces. The fourth-year right side leads the Thunder with 49 total kills and is averaging 4.2 points per set, ranking her first among East Division players, and third overall. Algonquin has now won five straight matches, including three consecutive in straight sets. Leger and her Thunder teammates look to keep rolling as they play host to the Fleming Knights on Saturday.

Akashia Moore-Samuels
School: Toronto Mississauga
Program: Sociology
Year of Eligibility: 3
Sport: Women's Basketball
Hometown: Milton, Ont.
Moore-Samuels had an outstanding game both offensively and defensively against Centennial on Nov. 17. The third-year point guard scored a game-high 26 points and made some clutch baskets in the fourth quarter to help defeat Centennial 89-82. Almost as importantly, she helped out with seven assists, while defensively contributing four steals and four rebounds, three off the defensive glass. Through four games Moore-Samuels is averaging 17.5 points per game. UTM has found success thus far in its debut season in the East Division with a 3-1 record.

Pranav Satheesh
School: Conestoga
Program: Project Management
Year of Eligibility: 3
Sport: Badminton
Hometown: India
Satheesh had a strong weekend on the court at the Fanshawe Invitational this past weekend. In men's singles play Satheesh went undefeated to take the "A" flight, including a victory over last year's OCAA finalists, gold medalist Ramnish Kumar of Humber and runner-up Yuge Zeng of George Brown. Satheesh also teamed up with a pair of Conestoga teammates to finish second in men's and mixed doubles. His overall record at the tournament was 14-2. Satheesh is a strong contender to appear on his home court at provincials this February.
