With varsity sports and recreation activities currently on hiatus due to the global pandemic, the OCAA will shine a spotlight on memorable games from the previous 2019-20 season.
Our feature Game of the Week is the gold medal game of the 2020 OCAA Women's Basketball Championship between the St. Clair Saints and Fanshawe Falcons which took place Mar. 8, 2020.
It was the second straight meeting in the gold medal game for both teams, with Fanshawe winning the 2019 finale 78-72. This time, however, the game would be played on St. Clair's home court, as the Saints looked to use their friendly crowd to their advantage. These two teams were not strangers, having played each other twice in the regular season. In fact, the Falcons had a four-game winning streak against the Saints in regular and post-season play dating back to Nov. 6, 2018.
Fanshawe fifth-year guard Mikhaila Wright capped off a great championship with a double-double scoring a game-high 30 points on 11-of-18 shooting from the field to go with 10 rebounds. She also contributed five assists. St. Clair third-year guard Logan Kucera earned a double-double of her own, scoring a team-high 26 points along with 10 boards and four assists. Kucera shot 4-of-8 (50 per cent) beyond the three-point arch.
