OCAA SELECTS NEW SENIOR LEADERSHIP COUNCIL

TORONTO - In accordance with its by-laws, the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) elected a new Senior Leadership Council (SLC) at the 2021 OCAA General Meeting held virtually from May 10-14. The SLC is as follows:

Nathan McFadden - President

McFadden, the Manager of Athletics at Fanshawe College in London, Ont., was elected for a second two-year term, becoming the third longest serving President in OCAA history (Rick Bendera – 5 years, Fred Batley – 4 years). He was previously an OCAA First Vice President where he was also on the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association's (CCAA) Board of Directors. He brings over 20 years of experience in sports management and administration at both the professional and university levels to the role. He has been with Fanshawe since December, 2012, leading the Falcons to the most national championships in the College's history. In his previous role, McFadden was the Manager of Hockey and Team Operations with the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League (AHL).

Ray Chateau - Past President

Chateau remains in the role of OCAA Past President for another two-year term. The Director of Athletics and Recreation at Humber College in Etobicoke, Ont., Chateau previously served an abbreviated term as OCAA President after serving as First Vice President. Chateau is nearing his eighth year anniversary as Humber's Athletic Director after a successful career as a faculty member and golf team head coach, leading the Hawks to 10 CCAA national championships. He was inducted into the OCAA's Hall of Fame in the coach category in 2017.

Michael Kopinak - First Vice President

Kopinak is the Associate Director of Athletics and Recreation at Humber College in Etobicoke, Ont. Kopinak has served as convenor of badminton at both the provincial and national level and has worked on several OCAA committees.

Elana Weber - Vice President, Campus Recreation

Weber is the Student Wellness and Athletics Coordinator at Lakehead University in Orillia, Ont. Weber has previously served on the Ontario Collegiate Recreation Committee.

Matthew Ferreira - Vice President, Finance & Awards

Ferreira is the Director, Athletics & Recreation for Mohawk College in Hamilton, Ont., and will serve an abbreviated one-year term following a vacancy. Ferreira is a former baseball team head coach (Humber) and has served as both a curling and men's baseball provincial convenor.

Kevin Biggs - Vice President, Marketing & Sport Development

Biggs is the Manager of Athletics and Student Engagement at St. Lawrence College in Kingston, Ont., and has been serving in the role since last February following a vacancy. Biggs has previously served on the OCAA Marketing and Sport Development Committee.

Jeff Harris - Vice President, Programs

Harris is the Varsity Coordinator at Georgian College in Barrie, Ont. and will finish his second term in the role this year. He was previously the national men's basketball convenor, having served in that capacity for 12 years.

All Senior Leadership Council terms are for two years in length and staggered for continuity. The terms for VP Programs, VP Finance & Awards and VP Marketing & Sport Development will conclude in May, 2022. The current terms of President, Past President, First VP and VP Campus Recreation run until May, 2023.
