OCAA STARS OF THE WEEK

TORONTO - The following student-athletes have been recognized by the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) for their accomplishments during the seven-day period ending Sunday, Jan. 22.

All OCAA Stars of the Week will receive an acrylic bag tag courtesy of Nothers, the Preferred Awards Supplier of the OCAA.

Jeremiah Brown
School: George Brown
Program: Early Childhood Education
Year of Eligibility: 4
Sport: Men's Basketball
Hometown: Scarborough, Ont.
Brown has been instrumental for the George Brown Huskies throughout the season on both ends of the floor. In George Brown's 93-72 win over the Durham Lords on Jan. 21, Brown scored a game-high 23 points on 10-of-13 shooting from the field and 3-of-5 from the three point line in just 17 minutes of action. Brown is currently averaging 11.9 points per game and has a free throw percentage of 80 per cent. The Huskies have an OCAA-leading nine game winning streak and sit a top the East Division standings with a record of 10-1.

Stella Dada
School: Seneca
Program: Therapeutic Recreation
Year of Eligibility: 4
Sport: Women's Volleyball
Hometown: North York, Ont.
Dada helped lead the Seneca Sting to a pair of road victories this past weekend in the nation's capital. Against the Algonquin Wolves on Jan. 20, Dada had 13 kills, 19 digs and a pair of service aces and stuff blocks in a four-set outcome. The fourth-year outside hitter followed that performance with 19 kills, 10 digs and an ace and block over five sets at La Cité on Jan. 21. Dada is averaging 2.9 kills per set, good for sixth among all OCAA players. The Ottawa sweep propelled the Sting to fourth in the East Division with a record of 9-4.

Jack Daley
School: Cambrian
Program: Graphic Design
Year of Eligibility: 5
Sport: Men's Volleyball
Hometown: Callander, Ont.
Led by their setter Daley, Cambrian is experiencing its best season since the early 1990s. The Golden Shield swept a two-match swing in Hamilton this past weekend, defeating Redeemer in four matches and Mohawk in five. Over the course of two matches Daley accumulated 80 assists, 21 digs, two aces and a stuff block. Daley currently ranks in the OCAA top 10 in assists, assists per set and digs. Daley is leading the Cambrian's offence with some golden hands. The Golden Shield now sit in second place in the West Division with a 10-3 record.

Ben Siebenga
School: Redeemer
Program: Chemistry
Year of Eligibility: 2
Sport: Men's Volleyball
Hometown: Belleville, Ont.
Siebenga had a career match in Redeemer's three-set victory over the Borèal Vipères at home on Jan. 21. The second-year outside hitter registered 10 kills and set a new school single-match record with 10 service aces, surpassing Dave Berghout and Jason Wildeboer's nine on Dec. 7, 2005 and Jan. 11, 2020, respectively. Siebenga also added five digs and two stuff blocks for a career-high 22-point performance. The victory ended a two-match losing streak for the Royals as they look ahead to a road swing to St. Clair and Fanshawe this weekend.

Rachel Vanderwal
School: Mohawk
Program: Architectural Technology
Year of Eligibility: 2
Sport: Women's Volleyball
Hometown: Hamilton, Ont.
Vanderwal had a career weekend for the Mohawk Mountaineers in a three-set sweep of the Borèal Vipères and five-set victory over the Cambrian Golden Shield. The second-year middle blocker had 24 kills and 35 points in the two matches combined. It is the second time this season Vanderwal has accumulated 24 kills in a two-match span. In the match versus the Golden Shield on Jan. 21, Vanderwal tied a career-high 14 kills and four blocks, while setting new career-highs with seven digs and five assists. Vanderwal also added three aces.

Megan White
School: Conestoga
Program: Project Management
Year of Eligibility: 5
Sport: Women's Basketball
Hometown: Waterloo, Ont.
White was a solid force in Conestoga's 76-59 win over the St. Clair Saints on Jan. 21 in Windsor. The fifth-year guard scored 11 points to set the all-time Conestoga school record for points in a career with 793. Not only is White an impact player on the offence but the backbone defensively, adding eight rebounds, two steals and one block. White is currently third among all OCAA players with 115 rebounds and fifth with 156 points. White and the Condors look to build on their two-game win streak this Thursday at home versus the Mohawk Mountaineers.
