GEORGIAN WOMEN'S GOLF TEAM WINS BRONZE AT OCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS

KINGSTON, Ont. - The Georgian Grizzlies men's and women's golf teams competed at the 2019 OCAA Golf Championships hosted by St. Lawrence College at the Cataraqui Golf & Country Club in Kingston, Ont., from Sept. 30 to Oct. 2.

It was a medal winning performance for Georgian's women's team of Rachael Rier (Hanover) and Kristen Butterfield (Brantford).

The duo remained very consistent throughout the tournament finishing with a combined three round score of 520 to finish in third place earning a bronze medal.

With the medal win, the duo has qualified for the 2019 CCAA Golf National Championships presented by PING which take place Oct. 14-18 at the Continental Golf Club in Sainte-Victoire-de-Sorel, Que.

Rier narrowly missed out on winning another medal in the women's individual competition as she finished in fourth place just three strokes back of Humber's Elaine Surjoprajogo who claimed the bronze.

Butterfield wrapped the tournament with her best round of the tournament in the third round to finish in ninth place.

On the men's side, Ryan Bell was the top Grizzlies golfer finishing in a tie for eighth place. The freshman from Parry Sound, Ont., was consistent at the tournament with rounds of 73, 76 and 73. He finished just seven strokes outside of earning a medal.

He was followed by Anthony Gognavec (Parry Sound) who finished in a tie for 17th, Austin Morrison (Lloydminster, Alta.), who finished tied for 28th, Luke Szent-Ivany (Pickering) who finished 31st and Jeff Ash (Barrie) who finished in 37th overall.

The men's team finished in sixth place with a combined score of 915 over the three rounds.
