DUGGAN NAMED OCAA GOLF COACH OF THE YEAR

DUGGAN NAMED OCAA GOLF COACH OF THE YEAR

TORONTO - Michael Duggan of the Durham Lords is the 2022 Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) Golf Coach of the Year.

A long-time member of the OCAA coaching fraternity, Duggan led the Lords men's team to a fourth-place finish at the recent OCAA championships. Three Durham golfers placed in the Top 25, including Matt Billington (tied 14th, plus-17), Cameron Lyon (16th, plus-18) and Julian Hrywnak (22nd, plus-32). In addition, Devyn Fraser finished tied for fifth in the women's competition, eight strokes off the podium.

Duggan has been at the helm of the Durham golf program from 1997 to 2013, and again since 2019. During that span the Lords have won 54 medals as individuals and as a team at OCAA and national competitions.

Internationally, Duggan has coached Team Canada at the World International University Sports Federation (FISU) Games, including serving as head coach in 2012 in Czech Republic.

This marks the third time that Duggan has received the award, having been named OCAA Coach of the Year in 1995 and 2010, the latter year also earning a CCAA Coach of the Year honour.

Duggan, who is OCAA's nominee for national golf coach of the year, will now lead the Lords into the 2022 Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Golf National Championships, presented by PING. The event takes place from Oct. 17-20 at the Deer Creek Golf Club in Ajax. The event will be hosted by Durham College.
