ANCASTER, Ont. - The St. Clair College women's indoor soccer team will play for a medal on Friday at the OCAA championship. The Saints competed at the championship on Thursday at Redeemer University and came away with a solid 3-0 record in round robin pool play.
St. Clair started off the day defeating George Brown College (Toronto) 1-0. Ryan Morneau (Windsor; L'Essor) scored the only goal for the Saints while keeper Natalie Turner (Windsor; Holy Names) was huge in goal making several big saves.
In their second match, the Saints took down the University of Toronto-Mississauga 4-0. Goal scorers were Cassie Nicholas (Windsor; Holy Names), Cassie Rose-Medeiros (London; John Paul II), Amber Hosker (Windsor; Catholic Central) and Stephanie Turner (Windsor; Holy Names). Natalie Turner and Alexandria Samping (Windsor; Holy Names) split the game in goal in picking up the win and clean sheet.
In their final round robin game, St. Clair defeated the Fanshawe Falcons (London) 2-0. Paiten Stephens (Harrow; Kingsville District) and Julia Albeartie (Tecumseh; L'Essor) scored for the Saints while Turner got the win and clean sheet in goal.
The entire St. Clair defence played outstanding throughout all three matches not allowing a goal against.
With their perfect 3-0 record the Saints ended up in first place in their pool. St. Clair will play at 11 a.m. in the semi-final on Friday against Humber College, the second-place team in the other pool. The winner will advance to the gold medal match at 2 p.m. while the loser will play for bronze at 1:30 p.m. The other semi-final will feature Fanshawe College against Seneca College.
