NIAGARA 93, ST. CLAIR 78

WELLAND, Ont. - The St. Clair College men's basketball team are still looking for their first win in the OCAA West Division after dropping a pair of league games on the road this weekend. St. Clair lost 110-85 to Redeemer University College in Ancaster, Ont., on Saturday night and then fell 93-78 to Niagara College in Welland, Ont., on Sunday afternoon.

On Saturday, St. Clair was down 43-34 by halftime and within striking distance but gave up 42 points in the third quarter to allow Redeemer to coast the remainder of the game. With the result already decided the Saints responded well in the fourth quarter with 35 points to make it respectable. St. Clair was outrebounded by a margin of 49-33 and Redeemer got 52 points from their bench while the Saints could only manage 22.

Five Saints reached double figures in the high scoring game with Nik Veigli (Cottam/Essex District) making five triples on his way to 22 points. Gil Atencio (18 points), Juwan Lynch (12 points), Jermaine Lynch (11 points) and Lance Drummonds (10 points) also recorded double digits for St. Clair. Atencio narrowly missed a double-double with nine rebounds in the game for the Saints.

Sunday's game was competitive throughout as the Saints had a chance to tie it at the halftime buzzer but trailed Niagara 39-36 at the break. Niagara increased its lead going into the fourth quarter and put the game away down the stretch. The Saints scored more from long range in the contest making 13 triples to just six for the home team. But Niagara owned the battle of the boards (60-26) and the paint scoring 46 points to just 24 for St. Clair.

Will Lara-Caston (Windsor/JL Forster) led the Saints with 21 points adding three rebounds, three steals and three assists in the Niagara loss. Jermaine Lynch (15 points), Atencio (15 points) and Veigli (14 points) also reached double figures for St. Clair.
