TORONTO - The St. Clair College men's basketball team had a good showing at the 41st Annual George Brown Tournament in Toronto this past weekend advancing to the championship game before falling to the host by a score of 90-58 and settling for second place in the eight-team bracket.

St. Clair opened their tournament Friday night with a lopsided 110-78 win over La Cité College (Ottawa) led by guard David Gomez Jr. (Pontiac, Mich.) who scored 25 points and was one of five Saints in double figures. Forward Ian Smart (Chatham) had 20 points and eight rebounds with Jalen Sykes (Redford, Mich.) potting 15 points. Juwan Lynch (Windsor/Kennedy Collegiate) and Daelyn Davis (Romulus, Mich.) each also reached double figures with 12 and 11 points, respectively.

In the Saturday semi-final St. Clair continued their strong play with a dominant 95-63 win over Durham College (Oshawa) with Gomez again leading the Saints with 20 points while adding three assists. Davis scored 11 points for St. Clair with Nik Veigli (Cottam/Essex District) and Glynn Willis-Paris (Windsor/Kennedy Collegiate) each chipping in with 10 points.

The good times ended in the championship game with St. Clair falling behind 53-26 by halftime and never really threatened a comeback to host George Brown who is ranked second in the OCAA and sixth in Canada. Sykes led the Saints scoring 15 points with Gomez and Smart each contributing 11 points apiece.

Gomez Jr. and Smart both represented St. Clair as Tournament All-Star team selections.
