ADAIR HEADLINES OCAA MEN'S RUGBY AWARDS

TORONTO - Trent University's Eli Adair (Stratford) is the 2015 Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) men's rugby player of the year.

The fourth-year centre averaged over a try per match, leading his Excalibur to an undefeated 6-0-0 regular season record. Adair scored six times in five matches. He is also an OCAA all-star.

Brent Buckley (Lindsay) of Algonquin College is the OCAA overall rookie of the year. The lock scored one try in six matches, leading his Thunder to a 5-1-0 regular season record.

Trent's David McCully is the overall coach of the year. McCully led the Excalibur to a second straight east regional championship, and a second undefeated OCAA regular season in the program's history. Trent outscored its opponents 393-52.

Trent's Hayden Ryan (Lindsay) was the overall OCAA scoring champion. The second-year winger scored 18 tries in six matches, totaling 90 points.

Stephen Lewis (Stoney Creek) of Mohawk College is the OCAA west region rookie of the year. Lewis was the team leader in points during the regular season with a try, seven converts and two penalty kicks for 25 points. He is also an OCAA all-star.

John Daggett of Georgian College is the OCAA west region coach of the year. Daggett led the Grizzlies to the west regional title with a 5-1-0 record.

James Innis (Collingwood) of Conestoga College is the OCAA west region scoring champion. The fourth-year 8-man scored eight tries in five matches totaling 40 points. Innis is also an OCAA all-star.

Each OCAA team nominates two all-stars. The OCAA all-stars from the east region include Liam Birkwood (Ottawa) and John Shaw (Ottawa) of Algonquin; Travis Phillips (Sterling) and Evan Taylor (Port Hope) of Fleming College; Drake Bartholomew (Belleville) and Jacob Spencer (Belleville) of Loyalist College; George Manoukas (Toronto) and Jake Moreau (Richmond Hill) of Seneca College; Elias Pickell (Edmonton, Alta.) and Jordon Riddle (Kingston) of St. Lawrence College; and Adair and Trevor Roberts (Ottawa) of Trent.

OCAA west region all-stars include Innis and Jacob Webster (Fenelon Falls) of Conestoga; Robin Calamatta (Erin) and Drew Currie (Coboconk) of Georgian; Duncan Earl (London) and Lewis of Mohawk; and Bobbie Donaldson (Mississauga) and Jad Hamade (Mississauga) of Sheridan.
