CHAHROUR HEADLINES OCAA MEN'S RUGBY AWARDS

TORONTO - Algonquin College's Taha Chahrour (Ottawa, Ont.) is the 2019 Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) Men's Rugby Player of the Year.

The second-year player was a key member of an Algonquin unit that went 5-1 in regular season play. Chahrour scored five tries in five matches. The East Division Player of the Year is also an East Division All-Star.

Chahrour's teammate, Brad Grant (Ottawa, Ont.), is the OCAA Rookie of the Year. Grant scored a pair of tries in five matches, and helped Algonquin to a second-place finish. The East Division Rookie of the Year is also an East Division All-Star.

John Daggett of Georgian is the OCAA Coach of the Year. Daggett led his Grizzlies to a perfect 6-0 regular season record, winning the West Division for the fifth consecutive season. Daggett is also the West Division Coach of the Year.

Durham's Ty Jacob (Oshawa, Ont.) is the OCAA Scoring Champion. The fourth-year centre scored 78 points in six matches on 20 converts, seven tries and one penalty kick, helping lead the Lords to consecutive East Division championships. The East Division Scoring Champion is also an East Division All-Star.

Zack Snider (Waterloo, Ont.) of Conestoga is the West Division Player of the Year. The second-year player scored 32 points in five matches, scoring four tries while contributing six converts. Snider is also a West Division All-Star.

Seneca's Joe Ribbins (Georgetown, Ont.) is the West Division Rookie of the Year. The fullback scored his first OCAA try, and helped lead Seneca to a second-place finish in the West Division.

Geoff Tomlinson of Algonquin is the East Division Coach of the Year. Tomlinson led his Thunder to a second-place finish in the East Division with a record of 5-1, handing East Division champion Durham its only loss of the season.

Georgian's Ryan Connolly (Barrie, Ont.) is the West Division Scoring Champion. The third-year scrum-half tallied 58 points on four tries and 19 converts in six matches.

Along with Chahrour, Grant and Jacob, OCAA East Division All-Stars include Algonquin's Sheldon McRae (Ottawa, Ont.) and Kirill Petin (Ottawa, Ont.); Durham's Daniel Cooper (Uxbridge, Ont.), Robert Eliadis (Uxbridge, Ont.), Hayden Parkins (Oshawa, Ont.) and Devon Parson (Caesarea, Ont.); Fleming's Kai Lucas (Peterborough, Ont.) and Trey Tenhave-Williams (Toronto, Ont.); and St. Lawrence's Zak Raymond (Kingston, Ont.), Evan Sim-Spence (Kingston, Ont.) and Travis Zelinski (Kingston, Ont.).

Along with Snider, OCAA West Division All-Stars include Georgian's Tennyson Brown (Alliston, Ont.), Donovan Jacko (Brampton, Ont.), Duncan Montague (Barrie, Ont.), Kurtis Nakashima (Lucan, Ont.) and Zach Patfield (Minesing, Ont.); Humber's Chris Dominey (Brampton, Ont.), Scott Kisiel (Toronto, Ont.) and Richard Sheffield (Mississauga, Ont.); Seneca's Erik Keppen (Whitby, Ont.), Levi Konecny (Whitby, Ont.), Liam McGuckian (Newmarket, Ont.) and Liam McLaughlin (Pickering, Ont.); and Sheridan's Tristian Hilton-Hastings (Mississauga, Ont.) and Justin Tota (Brampton, Ont.).
