Stuart Mackie of the Conestoga Condors has been named the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Men's Soccer Coach of the Year.

Mackie was honoured during the 2022 CCAA Men's Soccer National Championship, hosted by Langara College.

He guided the Condors to a 9-1 record and second-place finish in the always-tough Ontario Colleges Athletic Association's (OCAA) West Division. The nine wins were the most ever by Conestoga, which was also ranked in the CCAA's Top 10 for the first time ever.

"Stuart was instrumental in creating an atmosphere at Conestoga College that produced an impressive record in an extremely tough division," said David Munro, CCAA Men's Soccer Convenor. "The Condors continued their upward ascent this season, building on a foundation of consistent and strong play."

Since taking over the program two years ago, Mackie has made an immediate impact on his players and the future trajectory of the Men's Soccer program at Conestoga.

He takes pride in having a healthy relationship with his student-athletes and enjoys assisting them in their academic pursuits as well.  

Mackie is an excellent role model and has adopted and embodied the values of Condor athletics. As a result, his student-athletes demonstrated self-control and sportsmanship all season long and did not incur a single red card.

"His players know him as an approachable, tactical and energetic coach who cares deeply for his student-athletes and their overall success in post secondary athletics," said Matthew Schnarr, Manager, Varsity & Athletic Operations at Conestoga. "Through his leadership style, Stuart has positioned the program to develop a strong foundational culture that represents respect, integrity, and competitive spirit, which will serve the program extremely well for future Condor student-athletes."

Other nominees for the CCAA Men's Soccer Coach of the Year award were Marc Rizzardo of the Langara Falcons (Pacific Western Athletic Association), Alan Siwella of the Olds Broncos (Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference), Glenn McNabb of the Brandon Bobcats (Manitoba Colleges Athletic Conference), Charles Harvey of the Elans de Garneau (Réseau du sport étudiant du Québec) and Jamie McGinnis of the UKC Blue Devils (Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association).

The CCAA Men's Soccer Coach of the Year recipient receives a customized ring provided by Jostens Canada, the Official Ring Supplier of the CCAA.
