DURHAM AND HUMBER SET TO BATTLE FOR GOLD IN OCAA MEN'S VOLLEYBALL

DURHAM AND HUMBER SET TO BATTLE FOR GOLD IN OCAA MEN'S VOLLEYBALL

PETERBOROUGH, Ont. - The semi-finals of the OCAA Men’s Volleyball Championship brought a stiff competition in both of its games starting with the Falcons and the Lords battling in a point for point first set.

This stalemate was broken with Durham scoring the final point in the first set of the day. The score was 25-22.

The second set of the battle was an intense game with Fanshawe keeping Durham on its toes in a close match of 26-24 with Durham coming out victorious. With Fanshawe pushing back and digging their claws in, it won the third set 25-20.

The Lords gave it their all to become the victors of Game 5. The fourth and final set of game 5 was settled with a score of 25-20 for Durham, sending the Lords into the gold medal game on Feb. 29, and a trip to nationals.

The players of the game were Ewan Mason from Fanshawe and Rouzbeh Rahnavard from Durham.

The second game of the semi-final brought a tough match up between the Humber Hawks and the Georgian Grizzlies. The set began with what appeared to be an almost even match between the Hawks and the Grizzlies. This match up did not stay even for long with the Hawks slowly but surely building and increasing the lead over the Grizzles. This allowed the Hawks to take the first set 25-18.

In the second set the Grizzlies continued to battle but could not catch up to the Hawks as they continued to lead over the Grizzlies for the entire set. Despite Georgian's drive, the Grizzlies continued to chase the Hawks into the third. The set began as a back and forth battle exchanging hard hits, well placed tips, and unbelievable digs.

The Grizzlies were hungry and looking to take a set from Hawks, as they exerted pressure through much of the set, even taking the lead briefly. Despite Georgian's hunger, the Hawks showed the Grizzlies their fortitude for the game taking the final set 25-18, and the second semi-final game in three straight sets.

The player of the game for the Georgian Grizzlies was Gibson Graham and Joshua Fadare for the Humber Hawks.

The Hawks move into gold medal game to face off the Durham Lords. The Humber Hawks send the Georgian Grizzlies to the bronze medal game to the face Fanshawe Falcons.
