HUMBER ALUMNA MEGHAN MCPEAK SET TO LEAD ALL-FEMALE BROADCAST TEAM FOR TORONTO RAPTORS

ETOBICOKE, Ont. – Since her time on the hardwood with the Humber women's basketball team, Meghan McPeak has been a trailblazer and role model for women in sports. On March 24, the former point guard will once again shatter barriers, leading the first all-female broadcast in NBA history.

The Raptors announced on International Women's Day that their game against the Denver Nuggets will have McPeak on play-by-play with Canadian national star Kia Nurse as the analyst. TSN anchor and reporter Kayla Grey will do the sideline reporting, while Kate Bierness and Niagara native Amy Audibert will host and provide studio analysis.

As a member of the Hawks, McPeak's journey began when former athletic director Doug Fox recommended she get into the radio program. From there, she regularly led the Hawks on the hardwood and then immediately transitioned into the broadcast seat for the men's games that were aired on Humber Radio 96.9.

"I'm really excited, and really looking forward to this," McPeak told The Athletic's David Aldridge. "As a little mixed girl growing up, there was no representation for me in Canada. To have five women of different backgrounds, and three of which are Black women in sports on their televisions, is probably one of the craziest full-circle moments I've had in my career."

Having served as the play-by-play voice for the Raptors 905, McPeak moved to Washington to become the voice of the 2019 WNBA Champion Mystics and the G League's Capital City GoGo.

In a statement made to The Canadian Press, John Wiggins, the Raptors' vice-president of organizational diversity and inclusion said that there was obvious symbolism in making the announcement on International Women's Day.

"Yes, we're making a point," he said. "We hope this leads to more recognition of the many roles women play in pro sports. And we especially hope that one of the takeaways from this is for girls at home who see Meghan or Amy or Kayla, and think — hey, I could do that. There's a place for me in sports."

Wednesday's historic telecast will begin at 7 p.m. on TSN.
