MOHAWK SOCCER TEAMS TO HOST HOME GAME AT TIM HORTONS FIELD

MOHAWK SOCCER TEAMS TO HOST HOME GAME AT TIM HORTONS FIELD

Mohawk Mountaineers women's and men's soccer are heading to Tim Hortons Field to host the Sheridan Bruins on Oct. 8 for their final OCAA regular season match.

It will be the first time ever the Mountaineers soccer programs play a home game at Tim Hortons Field – the home of the Hamilton Tiger-Cats of the Canadian Football League, Hamilton Hurricanes of the Canadian Junior Football League and Forge FC of the Canadian Premier League.

"This is an exciting opportunity for both our teams to host at such an amazing facility," said Matthew Ferreira, director, athletics and recreation. "Playing at Tim Hortons Field aligns with the new era of Mountaineers athletics, as we work to provide our student-athletes and the Mohawk community with the best experience possible."

Due to COVID-19 safety protocols, no spectators will be allowed in the stadium for both games.

Mohawk's Broadcasting and Media program will be filming the game and posting full coverage on their YouTube channel, mLink, at a later date.

The Mountaineers and Bruins will be meeting for the second time this season. Previously, the Mohawk women's team lost 4-1 and the men's team fell 5-4 in a back and forth match.

There are some playoff implications going into this game as a win for the Mountaineers men's team will ensure a home playoff game on Oct. 16.

Mohawk women have clinched a playoff spot and will likely play on the road on Oct. 16 in the first round.

The women's game is scheduled to kick-off for 6 p.m. and the men's game will follow at 8 p.m.
