ALBERT REPEATS AS OCAA WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL PLAYER OF THE YEAR

NORTH BAY, Ont. - Fanshawe College's Janelle Albert (Brampton) was named the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) Women's Volleyball Player of the Year for the second year in a row in a ceremony held in North Bay, Ont., on Wednesday evening as part of the 2020 OCAA Women's Volleyball Championship.

Now a two-time Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) All-Canadian, Albert was the West Division Scoring Champion averaging 5.9 points per set, two points better than her closest rival. The third-year outside hitter totalled an OCAA best 269 kills, 37 service aces and 16 blocks to go along with 185 digs. Also named OCAA West Division Player of the Year, Albert headlines the West Division First-Team All-Stars.

Jessica Joensen (Pickering, Ont.) of Durham is the OCAA East Division Player of the Year. Also named an All-Canadian, Joensen averaged 3.1 points per set on 115 kills, 28 service aces and eight blocks. The fourth-year outside hitter headlines the East Division First-Team All-Stars.

Georgian's Carina Brooks (Caledon, Ont.) is the OCAA Rookie of the Year. The outside hitter was fifth among all OCAA players with 225 points and 182 kills. Also named OCAA East Division Rookie of the Year, Brooks is an East Division First-Team All-Star, and headlines the East Division All-Rookie Team.

East Division Coach of the Year Tony Clarke of Durham is the OCAA nominee for CCAA Coach of the Year. Clarke led the East Division champion Lords to an unblemished 18-0 regular season record, as Durham dropped only four sets the entire season.

Rylee Leger (Alexandria, Ont.) of Algonquin is the East Division Scoring Champion. The fourth-year right side averaged 3.9 points per set on 151 kills, 29 blocks and 25 service aces. Leger is also an East Division First-Team All-Star.

St. Clair's Keyome Ellis (Toronto, Ont.) is the West Division Rookie of the Year. The middle blocker averaged 2.7 points per set for the Saints this season on 128 kills, 33 blocks and 16 service aces. Ellis is a West Division First-Team All-Star, and headlines the West Division All-Rookie Team.

Jimmy El-Turk of St. Clair is the West Division Coach of the Year. El-Turk led the Saints to a third-place finish in the West Division with a 13-5 record. St. Clair was the only team to defeat West Division champion Fanshawe during the regular season.

In addition to Albert and Ellis, OCAA West Division First-Team All-Stars include Humber's Alex Krstonosic (Toronto, Ont.) and Julia Watson (Burlington, Ont.); Niagara's Natasha Desjardins (Welland, Ont.); and Mohawk's Kinsley Child (Wainfleet, Ont.) and Amanda Kuiper (Woodstock, Ont.).

Joining Joensen, Brooks and Leger as OCAA East Division First-Team All-Stars are Canadore's Emma Howe (North Bay, Ont.), Ashlyn Kadlecik (London, Ont.) and Kristine Ledger (Port Carling, Ont.); and Durham's Cassidy Nicholson-Clarke (Ajax, Ont.).

The OCAA West Division Second-Team All-Stars include Fanshawe's Mattea Deleary (Ridgetown, Ont.), Humber's Alex Bartman (Uxbridge, Ont.) and Shiann Williams (Toronto, Ont.); Mohawk's Kaelyn Emslie (St. Catharines, Ont.); Niagara's Madelyn Berg (St. Catharines, Ont.); and Redeemer's Abby Sluys (Thamesville, Ont.) and Jasmyn Stoffers (Frankford, Ont.).

Named OCAA East Division Second-Team All-Stars were Algonquin's Emilie Menard (Cornwall, Ont.); Canadore's Tianna Head (North Bay, Ont.) and Jess Venhuizen (London, Ont.); Durham's Allyson Terwillegar (Enniskillen, Ont.) and Georgi Williams (Whitby, Ont.); and George Brown's Alina Karpovnikova (Kazakhstan) and Ashley Lau (Vancouver, B.C.).

Joining Brooks on the East Division All-Rookie Team are Algonquin's Samantha Balys (Ottawa, Ont.); Canadore's Sarah Grassie (Sturgeon Falls, Ont.); Centennial's Jada Bradford (Ajax, Ont.); Durham's Haley Bickell (Winnipeg, Man.); and La Cite's Melanie Mainville (Casselman, Ont.).

Joining Ellis on the West Division All-Rookie Team are Conestoga's Libby Bauman (Kitchener, Ont.); Fanshawe's Lauren Vahrmeyer (Vineland, Ont.); Humber's Alex Lachapelle (Ajax, Ont.); Niagara's Kristen Oudman (Wainfleet, Ont.); and St. Clair's Chantal DeVlugt (Wyoming, Ont.).
