FANSHAWE WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY TEAM CROWNED NATIONAL CHAMPIONS

KING CITY, Ont. - At the CCAA National Championship race on Saturday afternoon, the Fanshawe women's cross country team won the CCAA gold medal. The championship was hosted by Seneca College in King City, Ont.

Janelle Hanna (Peterborough, Ont.) was the top finisher for the Falcons, running the race in a time of 24:06, good for sixth place overall. Sammi-Jo Burch (Strathroy, Ont.) finished in eighth place with a time of 24:22. Fanshawe collected 45 points, ahead of second place Lethbridge (67 points) to be crowned the top team in the country.

Rachyl MacPhail (Sydney River, N.S.), Laura Travaglini (London, Ont.) and Hannah Carley (Newmarket, Ont.) round out the Fanshawe women's squad. Hanna and Burch were named All-Canadians for their excellent performances. The Falcons' head coach is Ashley VanderVecht.

The Fanshawe men's cross country team finished in seventh place, led by Luke Groulx (Blind River, Ont.) in 23rd place with a time of 29:33.
