HUSKIES HOST OCAA CHAMPIONSHIP

HUSKIES HOST OCAA CHAMPIONSHIP

The men's soccer team advanced to the semi-finals for the third straight season after jaw-dropping game-winning goal in a 2-1 victory over the Fanshawe Falcons on Saturday (Oct. 21) night.

HOW IT HAPPENED: It was a defensive showcase between the two teams vying for a post in the final four. It was the Falcons that struck first after Kyle Cameron tapped in the opening goal in the 37th minute. The score remained the same at the half.

In the second half, George Brown's offence couldn't sustain any consistent threat for the first 30 minutes. They finally broke through thanks to fourth-year striker Yonis Jama, who scored in the playoffs for the third straight season in the 73rd minute. It looked like this match was destined for overtime until second-year midfielder Gianfranco Gileppo snipped a free kick from 45 yards out in the 86th minute to push the Huskies through.

UP NEXT: Since the Huskies are the highest seed in the East, they will host the Final Four from October 28-29 at Esther Shiner Stadium.

George Brown battles the Humber Hawks at 3pm, while the other semi-final features the Seneca Sting and Conestoga Condors at 12pm.
