After a start that saw the Mohawk Mountaineers lead after the first 10 minutes, the success could not be sustained as Mohawk fell to the Niagara Knights 60-43.

Celina Chung (Toronto, ON) led all Mountaineer scorers with 10 points and Tia Stys (St. Catharines, ON) was a presence on the boards, grabbing a season-high 13 in the game.

Head coach Mihai Raducanu said that two specific problems directly led to the loss.

"(Turnovers) were a huge problem, we allowed 22 points off of turnovers and defensive rebounding was an issue as well," said Raducanu.

The length of the Niagara players was also something that Raducanu had prepared for going into Saturday's game.

"We were prepped, we played (Niagara) earlier this season and they crushed us, so we knew we had to bring it today and we didn't," said Raducanu. "That's something for us as coaches to look at going forward."

Mohawk's coaching staff acknowledged that while they may not have performed to their standard so far this season, there is still lots of meaningful basketball left to play including hosting the CCAA National Championships in March.

The Mountaineers will return to action on January 18 when they host the Humber Hawks at 6 p.m.
