Nationally Ranked St. Clair College Basketball Teams Open OCAA West Season at Home

Windsor, ON – The St. Clair College Basketball teams will open their regular season at the SportsPlex Wednesday night against Lambton College (Sarnia) starting with the Women's game at 6:00pm followed by the Men's game at 8:00pm.

On the Women's side the Saints will feature a retooled roster with only two players returning from last season's OCAA Silver Medal.  2nd year point guard Shae-Lyn Murphy (Windsor, ON/Holy Names) and 2nd year post Grace Smrke (Sudbury, ON) are the lone holdovers from a squad that lost nine players including perennial OCAA All-Stars in Jana and Logan Kucera who are #2 and #3 on the all-time career scoring chart for St. Clair.

Joining the Saints this season to help the front court are 5'10" swing player Nyra Brown-Henderson (Windsor, ON/Kennedy) and 5'8" swing Sarah Stanton (London, ON/Sir Wilfrid Laurier).  Transferring to St. Clair are a pair of players who will make in immediate impact in 5'7" NJCAA transfer guard Janae Smith (Warren, MI) and 5'6" Manitoba transfer guard Alyssa Lucier (Wallaceburg, ON).  An influx of players joining St. Clair in the backcourt include 5'6" guard Lauren Overeem (Brantford, ON), 5'6" guard Adriana Dubois (Windsor, ON/Walkerville), 5'5" guard Skyla Glover (Windsor, ON/Kennedy) and 5'5" guard Hailey Pizzale (Timmins, ON).

The St. Clair Women have made an impression on the national rankings and sit at #9 in the pre-season CCAA poll that was released this week.

The St. Clair Men return the bulk of their core and are coming off a provincial and national Silver Medal last year, so the CCAA poll rewarded them with the #6 spot to start the season.  Returning players include 4th year 6'3" guard Jesiah Deerr (Whitby, ON), 4th year 6'4" forward Chad Vincent-Simon (Scarborough, ON), 5th year 6'5" swing Jalen Harmon (Ypsilanti, MI), 4th year 6'2" guard Terence Williams (Windsor, ON), 2nd year 5'8" guard Rodi Mazloum (Windsor, ON/Holy Names), 3rd year 5'10" guard Miles Hall (Toronto, ON) and 3rd year 6'2" swing Darnelle Peddie (Pickering, ON).

Helping fill the void of losing David Gomez Jr. who was a 2022 All-Canadian guard and the 6th all-time leading scorer in Saints history are several transfers and a few rookie players.

Transferring to St. Clair are 6'2" guard Timothy Steward (Detroit, MI) from the NJCAA's Mid Michigan College, 3rd year 6'2" guard Shakael Pryce (Pickering, ON) from the University of Windsor and 4th year 6'7" forward/centre Hanani Ujullu (Kitchener, ON) from Fanshawe College.

Rookie players for the St. Clair Men are 6'3" swing William Buffong (Cambridge, ON), 6'2" guard Gilad Gutt (Netanya, Israel) and 6'3" swing Adam Mazloum (Windsor, ON/Holy Names).
