HUSKIES LOSS SEASON FINALE

The Huskies dropped a 3-1 (17-25, 12-25, 25-22, 22-25) decision to the Canadore Panthers in their season finale on Saturday (Feb. 3) afternoon. 

NOTABLE STATS: Second-year outside hitter Taylor Grant tallied a team-high 13 points on 11 kills and two service aces. 

Second-year outside hitter Kaarina Niemimaa recorded 10 points on nine kills and a block, while first-year libero Claire Ramos posted a match-high 16 digs in the loss. 

UP NEXT: The Huskies are off to the playoffs as they battle the Humber Hawks in the crossover match on Saturday, February 10th, on the road. First serve is at 6pm.


 

GRADUATING STUDENTS 

George Brown College Athletics and Recreation would like to thank our graduating students for their commitment to the team over their Huskies careers. Our 2023-24 graduating Women's Volleyball student-athletes are: 

#3 Taylor Grant
Grant has made a significant impact both on and off the court since joining the George Brown women's volleyball program in 2022. With 35 matches so far, the versatile player has amassed 324 kills, 257 digs, and 26 blocks over two seasons. Recognized for her outstanding performance, Taylor was named to the OCAA All-Rookie team last season, along with earning the team's MVP award and being honoured as the Huskies Female Athlete of the Year in 2023. Taylor has truly left her mark. She is graduating from the Fashion Management Program.


#8 Emilija Rudzitis
Joining the Huskies this season, Emilija has proven to be the maestro of the team's offence. In 17 matches, the setter has registered 424 assists, 141 digs, and 15 kills. Notably, she achieved over 30 assists in a match on eight occasions this season. Emilija's instant passion and leadership qualities led to her appointment as team captain. She will graduate from the Project Management Postgraduate Program.


#12 Yuna Miyake
Yuna played two seasons for the Huskies, one in 2019-2020 and the other this season. The libero has played a vital role, participating in 21 matches and contributing 92 digs and 15 assists. Known for her positive energy, Yuna brings energy and positivity to the team during games, practices, and even long bus rides. She will graduate from the Tourism and Hospitality Management Program.


#13 Crystal Nguyen
Since joining the Huskies women's volleyball team in 2019, Nguyen has been a consistent threat in the middle position. Playing in 54 matches over four seasons, she has recorded 160 kills, 72 blocks, 84 digs, and 45 service aces. Recognized with the team's Commitment to Excellence award in 2023, Crystal is a perfect role model for hard work and perseverance. She will graduate from the Dental Hygiene Program.


#16 Vanessa Martino
Vanessa joined the program and has brought passion and tenacity. She has posted three kills, a service ace, and a block in six matches. She has made a notable impact in her short time with the team. She is graduating from the International Business Management Program.


#17 Daira Chala
Joining the Huskies women's volleyball team last season, Daira Chala played a consistent depth role in nine matches, recording 11 kills, seven digs, and two blocks. She contributed a ton and will be remembered for her dedication. Diara graduated from the Sport and Event Marketing Program in December.
