Lords double up in first OCAA games at new Durham Field

OSHAWA, ON - Marking the first games played at the freshly revamped Durham Field, the DC women's softball team made quick work of their OCAA opponents, dropping Seneca 8-1, before defeating Mohawk 11-1.

Enjoying playing on their new home turf, the Lords offence spread the ball around throughout both matches, registering 24 hits and 19 runs over the two games played, highlighted by a solo home run in the opening game courtesy Sydney Redick (Alvinston, ON). Eight different Lords batters recorded multiple hits, while 11 batters notched RBI. In addition to the strong play in the batter's box, Durham pitchers surrendered just four hits combined between the two opponents.

Following their strong Saturday play, the Lords will look to keep things rolling as they challenge the Humber Hawks at Durham Field tomorrow (Sunday, Sept. 26) afternoon. First pitch for the final home contest of the weekend for DC is set for 3 p.m.  
  Game 1
• Veteran third base Nicole Mancini (Toronto, ON) led the way for the Lords in their early afternoon win versus Seneca, going 2-for-3 at the plate with three RBI and one run.
• Playing at second base in the first game, DC first-year athlete Gracie Hearns (Napanee, ON) went 1-for-3 with two RBI on a big triple in the second inning.
Game 2
• In defeating the Mountaineers, Mancini was once again impressive with two more RBI and three runs from another 2-for-3 performance.
• Producing key hits in the second game, first-year standout Hannah Oke (Brooklin, ON) added four RBI on a 2-for-3 afternoon.
  • First-year pitchers Morgan Salter (Battersea, ON) and Oke combined for five strikeouts and just one earned run in the seven inning contest, with starter Salter picking up the win. 
• Delivering a complete game performance in the five-inning second game, Redick picked up her second win of the season after striking out eight Mohawk batters and conceding two hits and one unearned run.
    Overall Record: 4-2 (W-L)
Conference Record: 4-1

Next match: Sunday, Sept.. 26 vs. Humber Hawks (3 p.m. - Durham Field)
