Mountaineers extend win streak to three heading into playoffs

Mohawk Mountaineers women's basketball closed out the regular season with three consecutive wins after pulling out a 64-62 victory over the St. Clair Saints.

It was another fantastic first half for the Mountaineers, jumping out to a 10-point advantage after the first quarter. Mohawk would grow their lead in the second and head into half up 37-21.

Head coach Mihai Raducanu credited the great starts over the last two games to practice.

"Practice is clicking," Raducanu said. "We're practicing and everyone's playing the stuff that we're practicing."

The Saints began to find their offense in the second half to chip away at the lead. With only 5:37 remaining Mohawk's lead was down to two but a small 4-0 run gave the Mountaineers enough of a cushion to hold on for the final four minutes.

Maegan Dorris (Brantford, ON) came off the bench for Mohawk to knock down three three's and score a team-high 12 points. Angong Jacob (Calgary, AB) chipped in with 10 and seven rebounds.

Mohawk was an efficient five-of-10 from three for the game.

With the win the Mountaineers conclude the 2022-23 season with a 5-11 record. They will play the Algonquin Wolves on Feb. 25 in an OCAA crossover playoff game. Official details, including start time, are still to be determined.
