Knights Bounce Back with Lopsided 70-43 Win over Bruins

January 30, 2023...WELLAND - The Niagara Knights women's basketball team bounced back into the win column Friday night with a big win over the Sheridan Bruins. The Bruins have gone 0-12 this season, while Niagara now moves to 6-5 down the stretch.

The first half had the Bruins to close for comfort for the Knights, who had a small 27-23 lead after two quarters.

Niagara churned out a big third quarter to outscore the Bruins 19-7, with Taryn Mitchell picking up 12 of those 19 points in the third.

Now with some considerable distance in their lead, the Knights headed into the final frame with a 46-30 lead.

Another big quarter for the blue and white saw them cruise to a 70-46 win and moving them into 6-5 and tied for fourth with St. Clair in the OCAA West Division.

Jamira Rousseau finished the game with 15 points, followed by Mitchell with 14. Eden Ferraro finished the game with a double-double - 12pts and 12 rebounds.

"I'm pretty happy with our performance..defensively we were very good, said head coach Chris Rao. " Offensively, we need to continue to move the ball and continue to work on our fundamentals. We got good performances out of Eden (Ferraro) and Diana (Saoud) which was great to see. We need to continue focusing on what matters for us to play winning basketball, but we responded well after a tough week."

The Knights will look ahead to a tough schedule to finish off the regular season, beginning with Humber (12-0) in a Wednesday night road trip. Including Wednesday night's tilt at Humber, Niagara has just five regular season games remaining on the schedule before gearing up at the host team at the 2023 Women's Basketball Championships March 3-5th in Welland.
