The St. Clair College men's varsity soccer team continued their OCAA regular season home schedule on Sunday afternoon at the Libro Centre in Amherstburg.
The Saints came away with a hard fought 2-0 victory over the Niagara College Knights. The first half was scoreless as both teams had a couple of decent chances in an evenly played 45 minutes. The Knights had 8 shot attempts compared to 7 for St. Clair. The Saints took over the game in the second half holding a convincing 17 to 7 edge in shot attempts. However, St. Clair did not beat the Niagara keeper until the 68th minute on a nice strike by Noel Junior (Brazil) from in tight. The Saints got an insurance goal by Daniel Wlodek (Kitchener; Huron Heights) in the 75th minute that all started with a great place kick by St. Clair keeper Jaksa Vulovic (Windsor; Riverside). Vulovic had a solid game in goal making a couple nice saves in turning aside all 7 shots he faced.
Heading into the match St. Clair was ranked 7th in the OCAA. With the win the Saints improved to 3-2 while Niagara fell to 1-3.
The Saints are next in action on Friday when they host the Mohawk Mountaineers at 7 pm at the Libro Centre.
