Knights Women Cruise to 60-43 Win Over Struggling Mountaineers

January 16 2023...WELLAND - The Niagara Knights women's basketball team picked up thier first win of the 2023 half of the season with a 60-43 thumping of the Mohawk Mountaineers.

The Knights moved ahead to 5-4 with the win while the Mountaineers fell to 2-7. Niagara is slated to host the 2023 OCAA Championships March 3-5, while Mohawk will play host to the 2023 CCAA National Championship March 15-18.

Niagara got off to a slow start that saw Mohawk end the first quarter with a slim lead 14-12 heading into the second. The Knights found their footing in the second, holding the Mountaineers to just seven points and eventually putting a 10 point difference between them and Mohawk at 31-21 to end the first half. 

The Knights continued to hold the lead through the second half, eventually securing the 60-43 lopsided win over the Mountaineers.

Molly Taylor led the way with 12 points, while Jamira Rousseau chipped in 11 of her own. Janee Harrison and Kate Roth each picked up 11 and 12 rebounds respectively.

Next up for the blue and white will be Wednesday night at home against the visiting Redeemer Royals (3-6). Tip-off for the women will go at 8:00, following the men at 6:00pm.
