Game Preview: No. 5 Mountaineers back at home to host Hawks

Mountaineers vs Hawks

No. 5 nationally ranked Mohawk Mountaineers men's basketball will look to extend their three-game win streak on Wednesday night as the defending OCAA Champion Humber Hawks visit for an 8 p.m. start inside the David Braley Athletic and Recreation Centre

Admission to games is free for everyone.

The game will also be available to watch through OCAA Live.

The Matchup:

It's this years best versus last years best.

Mohawk is currently tied for the best record in the OCAA at 9-1, while the Hawks are still a team to watch for one year removed from winning the provincial title.

Humber enters the game with a 6-4 record and had a five-game win streak snapped last week versus the Conestoga Condors.

What Happened Last Time:

Nine wins in the first 10 games of the season has been a welcomed sight, but it hasn't been easy getting there for the Mountaineers. A handful of games have come down to the wire including the previous game between Mohawk and Humber back in November, where the Mountaineers squeaked by with an 83-80 win.

The two teams went back and forth in the first half before the Hawks pulled away after three to lead by 11. The Mountaineers would settle in for the final 10 minutes to win the quarter 27-13 and ultimately the game by three.

The 83 points is the lowest scoring total for Mohawk in a single game this season.

Who to Watch For:

Jerry Jr. Mercury (Scarborough, ON) is now averaging a double-double on the season with 18 points and 10.3 rebounds. The forward has accomplished double digit points and rebounds in five games this season.

Humber's Dwayne Lambert-Cadore is averaging 15.6 points per game and scored 16 points in the previous game against Mohawk. In the last two season, Lambert-Cadore has averaged 14.3 points against the Mountaineers in three games.

What's Next:

The schedule will take Mohawk on the road after this contest as they play at Conestoga on Jan. 26 and at Fanshawe on Jan. 28.
