Lords deliver in come from behind victory

LONDON, ON - Completing their trip to London as part of a season opening tournament at Fanshawe, DC softball delivered excitement in an outstanding come-from-behind 7-6 win over the Falcons on Sunday afternoon.

After falling behind 6-0 following four innings, the Lords rallied back with seven runs in the fifth and sixth, while shutting out Fanshawe down the stretch. Taking advantage of errors by the Falcons and great base running, DC secured the lead with a five run sixth inning, before pitcher Hannah Oke (Brooklin, ON) bounced back from her previous outing to deliver three innings of shutout softball in relief.

Durham will next travel to Mohawk this Wednesday, Sept. 22 before welcoming OCAA competitors to the new and improved Durham Field as part of a second mini-tournament to open the season. Wednesday night road action will begin at 6 p.m.
  • Eight Lords players recorded a hit, highlighted by Alexis Pereira who went 1-for-3 with two RBI, registering a big triple and a sacrifice fly.
• First-year outfielder Kaysa Melin (Surrey, BC) also impressed with her base running, going 1-for-4 at the plate with an RBI, while adding two stolen bases.
• Leading the Falcons in the exciting showdown was catcher Marandee Hunter who finished the game 2-for-4, adding three RBI and a run.
  • Second-year standout Sydney Redick (Alvinston, ON) made the start for DC, recording five strikeouts over 3.2 innings, allowing three walks, seven hits, and six earned runs.
• Appearing in relief, Oke went 3.1 innings, striking out one and allowing just three hits to earn the win in the comeback.
