MOHAWK 3, HUMBER 0

Will the real Mohawk women's softball team please stand up?

Fresh from two excellent outings against Durham over the weekend, the Mohawk women had their ears pinned back by the Humber Hawks in the first game of their OCAA women's softball doubleheader at Mohawk Sports Park on Tuesday.

The Hawks throttled the home side 16-3 in a game which mercifully ended in five innings. Sarah Franchetto had three RBI and Hilary Redrup drove in two to lead the offence, which was otherwise spread out in support of winning pitcher Myranda Pierson. Nikki Grover, who shutout Durham in her last start, got roughed up in this one, taking the defeat for the Mountaineers.

Game 2 of the double dip was totally different as Mohawk blanked Humber 3-0. Aimee Leduc was the big story in the nightcap, scattering five hits for the shutout and helping her own cause with an RBI. Amber Kukuk put the locals in front with a first inning RBI. That was the lone run until Mohawk scored twice in the sixth frame, compliments of Leduc and Kaylee Bertrand, who delivered a solo homer. Rachel Matheson-Green was the losing pitcher for Humber.
