CLAYDON HEADLINES OCAA WOMEN'S SOFTBALL AWARDS

TORONTO - St. Clair College's Amy Claydon (Cambridge, Ont.) is the 2021 Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) Women's Softball Player of the Year.

The fourth-year player was a duel threat from both the rubber and at the plate. With the bat, she led the OCAA with 37 RBI, tying a single season record in a shortened season. Claydon was second in the league with 33 hits, four home runs and a slash line of .541/.542/.902. As a hurler, Claydon was the OCAA co-leader with seven wins, and was fourth with a 2.03 ERA and 44 strikeouts. She is also an OCAA All-Star.

St. Clair teammate Shae-Lyn Murphy (Windsor, Ont.) is the OCAA Rookie of the Year. Murphy tied an OCAA single season record with 37 runs scored in a shortened campaign. She also led the league with 34 hits, 18 steals and 56 total bases. Murphy was third in batting with a .493 average. She is also an OCAA All-Star.

Fanshawe's Kennedi Roth (Stratford, Ont.) is the OCAA Batting Champion. Roth batted .552, with 32 hits in 58 at bats. The third-year player also led the league with a .574 on base percentage. Roth is also an OCAA All-Star.

Morgan Lowry (Middlesex-Centre, Ont.) of Fanshawe is the OCAA Pitcher of the Year. The second-year hurler set a new OCAA single game record striking out 19 in a 4-2 win over Conestoga on Sept. 24. Lowry tied Claydon with an OCAA-best seven wins, striking out a league-high 102 batters. A shortened season may have cost her a chance at the OCAA record of 119. Lowry is also an OCAA All-Star.

The OCAA Coach of the Year is Doug Wiseman of the St. Clair Saints. His squad flirted with perfection for most of the season, with St. Clair's lone loss coming in the penultimate game. A 17-1 record gave St. Clair the regular season title, and pole position at the OCAA Women's Softball Championship as the No. 1 seed. The championship is being played at St. Clair's new softball facility from Oct. 21-23.

Also named OCAA All-Stars were Cassie Leader (Kitchener, Ont.) of Conestoga; Alexis Pereira (Newmarket, Ont.) and Sydney Redick (Alvinston, Ont.) of Durham; Alexis Ferreira (Mississauga, Ont.) of Humber; and Julia Brusseau (Lakeshore, Ont.) and Judy Lafleur (Essex, Ont.) of St. Clair.
