OCAA STARS OF THE WEEK

TORONTO - The following student-athletes have been recognized by the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) for their accomplishments during the seven-day period ending Sunday, Feb. 11.

Jeremiah Brown
School: George Brown
Program: Electrical Techniques Program
Year of Eligibility: 5
Sport: Men's Basketball
Hometown: Scarborough, Ont.
Brown delivered a stellar performance against the Centennial Colts on Feb. 9, propelling the George Brown Huskies to secure second place in the East Division with a narrow 85-84 victory. On graduation night, the fifth-year forward led the team with a game-high 26 points and 14 rebounds, including five offensive boards, along with a block and a steal. Brown's first double-double of the season proved pivotal for the team. Brown and the Huskies will now entertain the Lambton Lions in one of eight sudden death OCAA post-season games.

Charles Darling
School: Sault
Program: Aviation
Year of Eligibility: 2
Sport: Curling
Hometown: Sioux Lookout, Ont.
Darling and partner Brooke Nicholson captured the gold medal in mixed doubles at the OCAA Curling Championships in Sault Ste. Marie this past weekend. The Sault Cougars avenged their only loss of the round robin with a steal of one in the final end to defeat the Humber Hawks 6-5 in the gold medal game. Darling was named Championship MVP and a First-Team All-Star. It marks a first-ever OCAA mixed doubles medal and championship in Sault history. The Cougars last won an OCAA gold medal in 2018 in the mixed team event.

Jacob Jones
School: Mohawk
Program: Civil Engineering Technology
Year of Eligibility: 3
Sport: Curling
Hometown: Brantford, Ont.
Jones did what Jones has done for the last two years. The Mohawk men's curling skip led the Mountaineers to their third straight OCAA championship, while capturing a third consecutive Championship MVP award and for the third time being named a First-Team All-Star. The Mountaineers avenged their only loss in the round robin by defeating the Humber Hawks 9-3 in the gold medal game. Jones and Mohawk will now prepare for the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association/Curling Canada Curling Championships in Fredericton, N.B next month.

Meaghan Mallett
School: Humber
Program: Social Science
Year of Eligibility: 3
Sport: Curling
Hometown: Waterloo, Ont.
It is a three-peat for Mallett, being named Championship MVP and a Championship All-Star for the third straight year at curling provincials. The Humber skip led the Hawks to their fourth straight OCAA women's team title this past weekend. The Hawks rolled through the competition with an undefeated 5-0 record, including a 7-3 victory over the Fanshawe Falcons in the gold medal game. Mallett and the Hawks will now prepare for the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association/Curling Canada Curling Championships in Fredericton, N.B next month.

Bianca Marchetti
School: Conestoga
Program: Interior Design
Year of Eligibility: 2
Sport: Women's Volleyball
Hometown: Richmond Hill, Ont.
Marchetti's performance on the weekend lifted the Conestoga Condors to an upset 3-2 road victory over the Canadore Panthers in one of eight OCAA crossovers played on Feb. 10. Down 2-1 and on the brink of elimination, Marchetti took over the match with some clutch serving and offence. By the end of the match, the second-year outside hitter would record a match-high 29 points on 21 kills, five service aces and three blocks. The Condors will now visit the undefeated Humber Hawks on Saturday for a ticket to the OCAA championship.

Brooke Nicholson
School: Sault
Program: Aviation
Year of Eligibility: 1
Sport: Curling
Hometown: Sault Ste. Marie, Ont.
Nicholson and partner Charles Darling captured the gold medal in mixed doubles at the OCAA Curling Championships in Sault Ste. Marie this past weekend.
