OCAA STARS OF THE WEEK

TORONTO - The following student-athletes have been recognized by the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) for their accomplishments during the seven-day period ending Sunday, Feb. 25.

Emily Coughlan
School: Seneca
Program: Accounting
Year of Eligibility: 1
Sport: Women's Volleyball
Hometown: Toronto, Ont.
Coughlan was instrumental in helping the Seneca Sting secure their first OCAA women's volleyball medal since 2001. The first-year setter guided the Sting to a silver medal while being named a Championship All-Star. Coughlan had 36 assists, five digs and three kills while being named Player of the Match in a straight sets win over the Durham Lords in the semi-final before adding 41 assists, eight digs and four kills in a four-set loss to the Humber Hawks in the gold medal match. Coughlan averaged 10.69 assists per set during the post-season.

Erika Dodd
School: Humber
Program: Sport Management
Year of Eligibility: 3
Sport: Women's Volleyball
Hometown: Uxbridge, Ont.
Dodd was named Championship MVP leading the Humber Hawks to their third consecutive OCAA women's volleyball gold medal, and 14th provincial title in 16 championships. In the gold medal match against the Seneca Sting, Dodd recorded a team-high 16 points on 14 kills and two service aces in a four-set victory. In four post-season matches, Dodd averaged 4.2 points and 3.62 kills per set. The two-time All-Canadian now leads the Hawks on a quest for an elusive national championship title in Red Deer, Alta., next month.

Kevin Hamlet
School: Durham
Program: Project Management
Year of Eligibility: 5
Sport: Men's Basketball
Hometown: Scarborough, Ont.
Hamlet helped lead the Durham Lords to a fourth quarter 65-58 comeback victory against the Seneca Sting in the OCAA quarter-finals on Feb. 24. In the fourth quarter, Hamlet shot 100 per cent from the field, also grabbing a pair of rebounds and an assist as Durham took the lead back to punch its ticket to the final four. Over the course of the whole game, Hamlet registered 13 points, seven rebounds, two blocks and two assists. Durham plays host to the OCAA Men's Basketball Championship with semi-finals taking place this Saturday.

Jacob Masters
School: George Brown
Program: Construction Techniques Program
Year of Eligibility: 3
Sport: Men's Basketball
Hometown: Toronto, Ont.
Masters was on a mission for the George Brown Huskies in the OCAA quarter-finals against the Mohawk Mountaineers on Feb. 24. The third-year guard went 9-of-12 from the field for a career-high 27 points, eight rebounds, three assists and a steal in a 101-90 victory for the Huskies. In the fourth quarter, Masters was clutch down the stretch posting 14 points and four rebounds to help the Huskies reach the final four for the third time in four seasons. Masters went 3-of-4 beyond the three-point arc, and 6-of-6 from the free throw line.

Marcus Morgan
School: Humber
Program: Cosmetic Management
Year of Eligibility: 2
Sport: Men's Volleyball
Hometown: Fort Erie, Ont.
Morgan was named Championship MVP leading the Humber Hawks to their fourth consecutive OCAA men's volleyball gold medal, becoming just the second program to achieve this feat. The second-year left side recorded 21 points on 19 kills, one service ace and one block in a back-and-forth gold medal match which saw the Hawks outlast the Fanshawe Falcons in five sets. A potential rematch between these teams could be on the horizon as both the Hawks and Falcons move onto nationals taking place next month in Victoria, B.C.

Molly Taylor
School: Niagara
Program: Practical Nursing
Year of Eligibility: 3
Sport: Women's Basketball
Hometown: Niagara Falls, Ont.
Taylor played 22 minutes for the Niagara Knights in the OCAA quarter-finals at home against the Fanshawe Falcons on Feb. 24. Taylor helped propel the Knights to a 75-53 win shooting 71 per cent (5-of-7) from the floor. Taylor recorded a double-double with 11 points, 11 rebounds and three assists playing at home as a Niagara Knight for the final time. Taylor has at least two more games wearing Niagara colours as the Knights make the trek to Lambton College for the OCAA Women's Basketball Championship beginning Saturday.
