O'REILLY RECEIVES INAUGURAL OCR LEADERSHIP AWARD

O'REILLY RECEIVES INAUGURAL OCR LEADERSHIP AWARD

TORONTO - The Ontario Collegiate Recreation (OCR) is proud to announce that Jennifer O'Reilly of Humber College has been named its 2023-24 Fred Batley OCR Leadership Award winner. O'Reilly is the Recreation Coordinator at Humber's North Campus and oversees their Intramural and Extramural programming.

The Fred Batley OCR Leadership Award is a new leadership award established to recognize an OCAA institution staff member who provides outstanding student-centered programming, innovative recreation engagement approaches and building community within their institution and within the OCR.

The award is set out to celebrate an individual who:

  • Supported and/or implemented innovative recreation approaches within their institution or the OCR;
  • Promoted Teamwork and Excellence;
  • Inspired individuals or groups to achieve a positive student-centered recreation experience;
  • Overall, represented the OCR as a strong ambassador at events to not only their students, but to all participants involved.

O'Reilly has been a member of the OCR for over 15 years, serving in many instrumental roles on the executive committee and being a valuable "mover and shaker" within its programming expansion. O'Reilly is frequently hosting extramural tournaments, helping institutions with rosters, being a tremendous help at other institutions hosting, and spearheading new recreation activities within the Humber community. O'Reilly has pushed the envelope when it comes to creative ways to engaging students and the broader community, including her efforts in establishing a valuable Unified Basketball event that brings together Extramural teams and Special Olympics athletes in a friendly competition.

"Jen is an incredibly valuable member of the OCR," comments one of her nominators. "Whether it be at her own host tournaments or ones that she is travelling to attend with her teams, her presence and expertise are always leveraged and valued."

Fred Batley was present at the OCAA Annual General Meeting (AGM) this week, hosted by Georgian College at Blue Mountain Village, where he was able to present O'Reilly with this award. Batley was one of O'Reilly's very first leaders and mentors, so this was a special moment for her recognition.

Congratulations Jen and thank you for everything you do within the OCR!
