2023-24 OCR STUDENT LEADERSHIP AWARDS

TORONTO – The Ontario Collegiate Recreation (OCR) group is excited to announce the selection of two Student Leadership Award recipients for the 2023-24 year. This award is given to student leaders who have significant involvement in their institution's campus recreation programs, outstanding leadership, positively motivates their peers, and who's involvement has greatly enhanced the athletic and recreation program on their respective campus. Students were recognized for their high level of commitment, passion, and leadership to their campus recreation programs. Involvement varied from nominees who were experts in a given activity, or extremely passionate to encourage others to participate.

Eugenia Chapman of Seneca Polytechnic was selected for being a driving force behind the implementation of women's recreation programming on her campus. She was the mastermind behind Seneca's special events programming to provide different opportunities for every student to explore something new. Eugenia is described as extremely hard working, pays attention to details and always brings creative ideas.

"Eugenia is a positive addition to the Seneca York Recreation team. She is quiet, but always hard working and productive. With creative ideas and attention to detail, she ensures all students have access to programs. She is very passionate about reaching students who might not be regular facility users by coming up with ideas and programs to ensure everyone has access. Specifically, she has had an impact on the increase in women's programming and attendance. Eugenia has shown tremendous growth over her two years with Seneca, both in confidence and competence." - Michelle Hamer; Manager, Recreation & Wellness

Seth Brouwer of Redeemer University was selected for his passion of role modeling for other participants and fostering a positive and inclusive environment within the campus recreation community. He is a very involved student leader, serving as a game official, intramural team coordinator, score keeper, extramural manager and league convenor. Seth inspires and motivates others as a team captain by demonstrating determination, resilience, and sportsmanship. He spearheaded a fundraising initiative that raised $7,000 for a new recreation league to operate.

His exemplary leadership, dedication, and passion for promoting a healthy and active lifestyle have positively impacted the lives of countless students and enriched the campus recreation experience for all. As the climate of recreation programming and sport continue to grow, develop, and expand, the OCR is grateful to have student leaders like Eugenia and Seth who are dedicated, passionate and committed to bettering the student-athlete experience.
