STING WIN WOMEN'S SOCCER NATIONAL TITLE

CCAA Championship Match: Seneca Sting 1, Dynamiques de Sainte-Foy 0

The Seneca Sting claimed the CCAA national championship on Saturday in Summerside, P.E.I., defeating the Dynamiques de Sainte-Foy, 1-0 in a tightly contested match.

The back-and-forth game appeared destined for extra time, until the 73th minute mark when Emma Gattoni capitalized on a chance in front of the Dynamiques' net to score the first and only goal of the match.

Sainte-Foy continued to apply the pressure on the Sting, in the wind, rain and snow, but were unable to score the equalizer.

The Sting's accomplishment was not only the first CCAA national championship for Seneca's women's soccer but also any OCAA women's soccer team. Sainte-Foy's silver medals represented the third podium finish for the Dynamiques since 2019, having earned gold that season and silver in 2021.

The 4Imprint Players of the Match were Gatooni from Seneca and Rosalie Morissette from Sainte-Foy.

CCAA Semi-Final: Seneca Sting 2, Champlain Saint-Lambert 0

The Seneca Sting punched their ticket to the 2023 CCAA national championship match on Thursday with a victory in a highly emotional meeting with the Champlain Saint-Lambert Cavaliers.

A goal in the 25th minute by Jessica Shears shocked the Cavaliers, giving Seneca the early lead. She added her second of the match in the 37th minute to extend the lead to two.

The powerhouse Cavaliers were stunned as they were unable to solve the Sting defence in the heated second half.

With a red card being issued in the final 10 minutes of the match, Seneca was clutch and held on to earn the 2-0 victory.

The 4Imprint Players of the Match were Shears from Seneca, and Emilie Grondines, from Champlain Saint-Lambert.

Seneca advances to the national gold medal match for the first time in program history. Seneca is just the second OCAA women's soccer program to advance to the CCAA final, joining the 2009 Fanshawe Falcons.
