HAWKS FALL SHORT OF PODIUM AT WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL NATIONALS

CCAA Bronze Medal Match: Nordiques de Lionel-Groulx 3, Humber Hawks 1

The Nordiques de Lionel-Groulx have won bronze at 2024 CCAA Women's Volleyball National Championship.

With a match-high 16 kills from Jade Genereux, the Nordiques defeated the Humber Hawks in four sets (25-21, 23-25, 25-20 and 25-17). Teammate Sandrine Methot contributed 10 kills, 10 digs and one of the Nordiques' 10 service aces. Libero Camille Dufort recorded 15 digs and three assists for the Réseau du sport étudiant du Québec (RSEQ) Champions.

The Humber Hawks were led offensively by Te-Anna Stephenson (11 kills) and Keyome Ellis (10 kills). First-year setter Kennedy Williscroft had 34 assists and one of the Hawks' four aces. Libero Reese Cholette picked up 24 digs for the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) Champions.

Dufort was named the 4imprint Nordiques Player of the Match.

Ellis was recognized as the 4imprint Hawks Player of the Game.

CCAA Bronze Semi-Final: Humber Hawks 3, Capilano Blues 2

The Humber Hawks will play for national bronze.

In the bronze semi-finals, the Hawks received a 13-kill performance from outside hitter Te-Anna Stephenson (0.258) and edged the Capilano Blues in five sets (23-25, 25-15, 25-18, 21-25 and 15-12). Teammate Cassidy Andrews contributed 13 kills and two of Humber's seven blocks. Second-year libero Reese Cholette had 18 digs, two assists and a kill for the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) Champions.

Nnya Mbaoma led the Blues offence with 24 kills. The third-year outside hitter from Nanaimo added 10 digs and three assists. Fifth-year outside hitter Vanesa Gatto accumulated 12 kills and 10 digs. Blues' setter Jayden Easingwood, who is from Calgary, picked up 46 assists for the Pacific Western Athletic Association (PACWEST) wildcard team.

Stephenson was honoured as the Hawks Player of the Game. Mbaoma received the Blues Player of the Game award.

The Hawks will play the Nordiques de Lionel-Groulx in the bronze medal match on Saturday, March 9 at 6 p.m.

CCAA Bronze Quarter-Final: Humber Hawks 3, UKC Blue Devils 1

After dropping the opening set, the Humber Hawks won the next three and downed the UKC Blue Devils (22-25, 25-18, 25-10 and 25-19) in the bronze quarter-final.

The Hawks were powered by fifth-year Te-Anna Stephenson's 14 kills (0.297). Humber's Cassidy Andrews contributed 13 kills (0.500) out of the middle for the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) champions. First-year setter Kennedy Williscroft had 40 assists and one of the Hawks' seven service aces.

Blue Devils' third-year setter Claire Traynor (27 assists) connected with five-foot-10 outside hitter Maya Lees for a team-leading 12 kills. Frances Cooke added nine kills. Kaitlyn Legault chipped in with eight kills and two service aces for the Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association (ACAA) Champions.

Andrews received the 4imprint Hawks Player of the Match award. Lees was named the 4imprint Blue Devils Player of the Game.

The Humber Hawks will challenge the Capilano Blues in the bronze semi-finals on Friday at 6 p.m.

The Blue Devils will face the CMU Blazers in the placement match on Friday at 3 p.m.

CCAA Quarter-Final: Red Deer Polytechnic (RDP) Queens 3, Humber Hawks 0

The Red Deer Polytechnic Queens used the energy from the home crowd and won their quarter-final match over the Humber Hawks in three sets (25-22, 25-13 and 25-14).

The Queens were led by outside hitter Emma Holmes, who had a match-high 22 kills.

RDP's setter Emma Letkeman recorded 32 assists and 12 digs. Outside hitter Rachel Perry accumulated seven kills for the Polytechnic.

Both Keyome Ellis and Te-Anna Stephenson had six kills for the Humber Hawks. The Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) Champions received 15 assists from first-year setter Kennedy Williscroft. Cassidy Andrews chipped in with four kills for the Hawks.

Holmes was named the 4imprint Queens Player of the Game, adding nine digs and two assists

Second-year libero Reese Cholette received the 4imprint Hawks Player of the Game award. Oakville's Cholette had 20 digs and five assists.

The Red Deer Polytechnic Queens will play Vancouver Island University (VIU) Mariners in the semi-finals on Thursday at 8 p.m. The Humber Hawks will compete against the University of King's College (UKC) Blue Devils in the bronze quarter-final at 3 p.m.
